PPowertrainTiming Reference Signal B: Too Many Pulses
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP0376 reports that timing reference high resolution signal B shows too many pulses. This signal usually comes from a position sensor (crankshaft or pump, depending on the system). Extra pulses corrupt the position calculation and can disturb fuel injection and ignition timing.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Hard start or no start.
- Misfires, hesitation or stalling.
- Loss of power.
Possible causes
- Electrical noise on the sensor wiring.
- Faulty sensor shielding or ground.
- Failed sensor.
- Damaged reluctor or tone wheel.
- Ignition wiring or an accessory causing interference.
Diagnosis and repair
- Identify which sensor provides signal B in the manufacturer documentation.
- Inspect the wiring, its routing near high voltage leads, and the grounds.
- Check the signal with an oscilloscope to spot extra pulses.
- Check the tone wheel, then replace the sensor if the signal stays abnormal.
- Clear the code and road test.
