P0329
PPowertrainKnock Sensor 1 Circuit Intermittent (Bank 2)
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP0329 indicates an intermittent signal on the knock sensor 1 circuit, on bank 2 or on an engine with a single sensor. This sensor picks up vibrations from abnormal combustion so the engine control module can retard ignition timing. When the signal drops out, the module falls back to conservative timing.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Reduced power or sluggish response.
- Higher fuel consumption.
- Audible pinging under load in some cases.
Possible causes
- Corroded or loose knock sensor connector.
- Damaged wiring, often from heat.
- Faulty knock sensor.
- Sensor not tightened to the correct torque.
- Engine control module fault, which is rare.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the connector and harness, wiggling wires with the engine running.
- Check the sensor mounting torque.
- Measure sensor resistance and output with a multimeter.
- Replace the sensor or repair the wiring as indicated.
- Clear the code and road test under load.
