P2463
PPowertrainDPF Restriction: Soot Accumulation
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP2463 indicates a diesel particulate filter restriction caused by excessive soot accumulation. Using differential pressure and its internal models, the ECU estimates that the DPF is overloaded and normal regenerations are no longer enough. Regenerating a heavily loaded filter without control can damage it.
Symptoms
- DPF or check engine light on.
- Significant loss of power and limp mode.
- Automatic regeneration inhibited by the ECU.
- Higher fuel consumption.
Possible causes
- Repeated short trips preventing regenerations from completing.
- Excess soot production: injectors, EGR valve, airflow sensor, turbo.
- Faulty exhaust temperature or differential pressure sensor.
- Empty DPF additive tank on systems that use one.
- Regenerations inhibited by another stored fault.
Diagnosis and repair
- Read all codes and fix any fault that blocks regeneration first.
- Check soot load and differential pressure in live data.
- Run a forced regeneration with a diagnostic tool if the soot load allows it.
- If the load is too high, have the DPF cleaned or replaced.
- Clear the code, then drive on a motorway to confirm.
