DPF Differential Pressure Too High (Bank 1)

What does this code mean?

Severity : High

P244B indicates that differential pressure across the bank 1 diesel particulate filter is too high. Exhaust gas struggles to pass through the DPF, usually because it is loaded with soot or ash. Excessive back pressure reduces performance and can eventually damage the turbo or engine.

Symptoms

  • DPF or check engine light on.
  • Marked loss of power and limp mode.
  • Frequent or interrupted regenerations.
  • Higher fuel consumption.

Possible causes

  • DPF clogged with soot after repeated short trips.
  • Ash accumulation at the end of the filter's life.
  • Blocked or kinked sensor hose distorting the reading.
  • Faulty differential pressure sensor.
  • Engine fault producing excess soot: injector, EGR valve, airflow sensor.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Check the differential pressure sensor and its hoses.
  • Read soot load and differential pressure in live data.
  • Fix any cause of excess soot first: injection, EGR, air intake.
  • Run a forced regeneration with a diagnostic tool if conditions allow.
  • If pressure stays high, have the DPF cleaned or replaced, then clear the code.
