DPF Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

What does this code mean?

Severity : High

P2003 indicates that diesel particulate filter (DPF) efficiency on bank 2 is below the expected threshold. It applies to V engines with one filter per cylinder bank. Using differential pressure, the ECU concludes that the filter is no longer trapping soot properly, or that the reading is distorted.

Symptoms

  • Check engine or DPF warning light on.
  • Black smoke from the exhaust.
  • Possible limp mode with reduced power.
  • Soot visible at the tailpipe.

Possible causes

  • Cracked or damaged bank 2 DPF.
  • Differential pressure sensor hoses disconnected or split.
  • Faulty differential pressure sensor.
  • Exhaust leak upstream of the filter.
  • Excess engine smoke from injection or turbo faults.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Check the bank 2 differential pressure sensor and hoses.
  • Compare differential pressure readings for both banks in live data.
  • Check for exhaust leaks and inspect the filter condition.
  • Replace the sensor, hoses or DPF according to the diagnosis.
  • Clear the code and road test.
