P2458
PPowertrainDPF Regeneration Duration
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP2458 indicates a diesel particulate filter regeneration duration problem. The ECU started a regeneration, but it took longer than expected or could not complete. This is often linked to short trips, but can also come from low exhaust temperature or a faulty sensor.
Symptoms
- DPF or check engine light on.
- Cooling fan running and raised idle after switching off.
- Higher fuel consumption.
- Loss of power if the filter clogs.
Possible causes
- Short trips interrupting regenerations.
- Faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor.
- Weak oxidation catalyst preventing temperature rise.
- Injection, EGR or thermostat fault disturbing regeneration.
- Faulty differential pressure sensor or hoses.
Diagnosis and repair
- Read exhaust temperatures and soot load in live data.
- Check the temperature and differential pressure sensors.
- Drive 20 to 30 minutes on a motorway to help regeneration.
- Run a forced regeneration with a diagnostic tool if needed.
- Clear the code and monitor the following regenerations.
