P0773
PPowertrainShift Solenoid E Electrical Fault
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP0773 reports an electrical fault on shift solenoid E of an automatic transmission. The transmission module drives this solenoid to direct fluid and engage certain gears. It detects an open circuit, short or out-of-range resistance, which can prevent some gear changes.
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission light on.
- Harsh or missing gear changes.
- Transmission stuck in one gear in limp mode.
- Higher fuel consumption.
Possible causes
- Failed shift solenoid E.
- Damaged internal transmission harness.
- Corroded or leaking transmission connector.
- Short in the external harness.
- Faulty transmission control module, less often.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check transmission fluid level and condition.
- Inspect the transmission connector and external wiring.
- Measure solenoid E resistance at the transmission connector with a multimeter.
- Replace the solenoid or the internal harness involved.
- Clear the code, run a transmission adaptation if required and road test.
