Input/Turbine Speed Sensor A Circuit Fault

What does this code mean?

Severity : High

P0715 reports a fault in the input or turbine speed sensor A circuit of an automatic transmission. This sensor measures input shaft speed, which the module compares with output speed to manage shifts and detect slipping. Without this signal, the transmission often goes into limp mode.

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission light on.
  • Harsh or erratic shifts.
  • Transmission stuck in one gear in limp mode.
  • Erratic tachometer or gear indicator on some vehicles.

Possible causes

  • Failed input speed sensor.
  • Damaged or corroded wiring or connector.
  • Sensor contaminated with metal particles.
  • Incorrect transmission fluid level.
  • Faulty transmission control module, less often.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Check transmission fluid level and condition.
  • Inspect the sensor connector and wiring.
  • Watch input speed in live data while driving.
  • Measure sensor resistance or signal, then replace it if needed.
  • Clear the code and road test.
