Unauthorized Software/Calibration Detected

What does this code mean?

Severity : Medium

P064F means the control module has detected unauthorised software or calibration. At start up it checks the integrity and authenticity of its program. This code often appears after an interrupted flash, an incorrect update or a software change the manufacturer does not recognise.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on.
  • Limp mode or reduced power.
  • No start on some vehicles.
  • Some diagnostic tools refuse to communicate.

Possible causes

  • Interrupted or incomplete ECU programming.
  • Installed software not matching the vehicle.
  • Software change not recognised by the module.
  • Replacement module not coded or coded incorrectly.
  • Internal ECU memory fault.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Check the history of any work done on the control module.
  • Check battery voltage, which is critical for any programming.
  • Have the module reprogrammed with the original calibration or the official update.
  • Check module coding if it has been replaced.
  • Clear the code and confirm it does not return.
