Barometric Pressure Sensor A Range/Performance

What does this code mean?

Severity : Medium

P2227 indicates a range or performance problem with barometric pressure sensor A. The control module uses this reading to adjust fuelling and boost pressure for altitude. It compares the sensor value with other pressure sensors with the engine off and sees an abnormal difference.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on.
  • Loss of power or limp mode.
  • Possible black smoke on a diesel.
  • Higher fuel consumption.

Possible causes

  • Faulty barometric pressure sensor (sometimes built into the module).
  • Damaged connector or wiring.
  • Boost or MAP sensor at fault in the comparison.
  • Blocked sensor port.
  • Faulty control module, less often.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Check where the sensor is on your vehicle (separate or inside the module).
  • Compare barometric and intake pressure in live data, key on and engine off.
  • Inspect the sensor connector, wiring and port.
  • Replace the faulty sensor after checking it with a multimeter.
  • Clear the code and road test.
