What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP0120 indicates a fault in the circuit of throttle or pedal position sensor "A". The engine control module uses this signal to know how much power you are asking for and to meter intake air. A missing or implausible signal often triggers limp mode.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Limp mode with limited power.
- Hesitation or jerking on acceleration.
- Unstable idle or stalling.
Possible causes
- Faulty throttle or pedal position sensor.
- Corroded or loose connector.
- Open or shorted wiring.
- Faulty 5 V reference or ground.
- Faulty engine control module, less commonly.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring.
- Measure the 5 V reference, ground and signal with a multimeter.
- Watch the signal in live data while slowly pressing the pedal.
- Replace the sensor, throttle body or pedal if the signal is erratic.
- Clear the code, run a throttle relearn if required and road test.
