P0221
PPowertrainThrottle/Pedal Position Sensor B Range/Performance
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP0221 indicates a range or performance problem with throttle or accelerator pedal position sensor B. These sensors are duplicated for safety, and the module compares their signals constantly. When sensor B disagrees with sensor A, the module limits throttle opening as a precaution.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Limp mode with greatly reduced power.
- Poor or erratic throttle response.
- Unstable idle or stalling.
Possible causes
- Worn throttle or pedal position sensor.
- Dirty or faulty throttle body.
- Wiring or connector with an intermittent contact.
- Unstable 5 V sensor supply.
- Faulty control module, less often.
Diagnosis and repair
- Identify whether the throttle or pedal sensor is involved on your vehicle.
- Inspect the relevant connector and wiring.
- Compare signals A and B in live data while slowly pressing the pedal.
- Check the 5 V supply and ground with a multimeter, then replace the faulty part.
- Run a throttle relearn if required, clear the code and test.
