P0238
PPowertrainTurbo Boost Sensor A Circuit High
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP0238 means the engine control module sees a voltage that is too high on the circuit of turbocharger boost sensor "A". This sensor reports the pressure the turbo builds in the intake manifold. A high signal looks like overboost, so the ECU often limits power as a precaution.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Limp mode with loss of power.
- Turbo seems to stop boosting.
- Possible black smoke under acceleration.
Possible causes
- Corroded or unplugged boost sensor connector.
- Open ground wire to the sensor.
- Signal shorted to the 5 V reference or battery voltage.
- Faulty boost pressure sensor.
- Faulty engine control module, less commonly.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring.
- Check ground, 5 V reference and signal with a multimeter.
- With key on and engine off, compare the reading with atmospheric pressure.
- Replace the sensor if the signal stays implausible.
- Clear the code and road test while watching boost pressure.
