P2138
PPowertrainThrottle/Pedal Position Sensor D/E Correlation
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP2138 indicates a voltage correlation fault between signals D and E of the accelerator pedal or throttle position sensor. These two redundant tracks should move together in a defined ratio. If they disagree, the engine control module can no longer trust driver demand and usually goes into limp mode.
Symptoms
- Check engine or emissions light on.
- Limp mode with very limited acceleration.
- Engine held at a fast idle in some cases.
- Erratic pedal response.
Possible causes
- Faulty accelerator pedal position sensor.
- Corroded or loose pedal connector.
- Damaged or shorted wiring.
- Unstable 5 V reference supply.
- Engine control module fault, which is rare.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the accelerator pedal connector and wiring.
- Watch both signals in live data while slowly pressing the pedal.
- Measure 5 V references and grounds with a multimeter.
- Replace the pedal assembly if the signals still disagree.
- Clear the code, run a relearn if required, then road test.
