P0470
PPowertrainExhaust Pressure Sensor Fault
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP0470 signals a malfunction of the exhaust pressure sensor. This sensor, mostly found on diesels, measures exhaust back pressure to help the engine control module manage the turbocharger, EGR or exhaust brake. The signal it receives is missing, out of range or implausible.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Loss of power or limp mode.
- Exhaust brake behaving abnormally on equipped vehicles.
- Other turbo or EGR codes may be stored.
Possible causes
- Faulty exhaust pressure sensor.
- Blocked, cracked or disconnected pressure sensing line.
- Wiring or connector damaged by heat.
- Missing reference voltage.
- Engine control module fault, which is rare.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the pressure sensing line and its fitting.
- Check the sensor connector and wiring.
- Compare the reading with the engine off against atmospheric pressure.
- Measure reference, ground and signal with a multimeter.
- Replace the sensor or line, clear the code and road test.
