P20ED
PPowertrainSCR Pre-Catalyst Over Temperature (Bank 1)
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP20ED means the catalyst located upstream of the SCR system on bank 1 has exceeded its maximum allowed temperature. The control module monitors this temperature through sensors in the exhaust line. Overheating can damage the catalysts and the DPF, and is often caused by excess fuel reaching the exhaust.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Limp mode with reduced power.
- Smoke or burnt diesel smell from the exhaust.
- Unusually frequent DPF regenerations.
Possible causes
- Leaking or sticking engine fuel injector.
- Leaking exhaust fuel injector, where fitted.
- DPF regeneration too frequent or poorly controlled.
- Faulty exhaust temperature sensor giving a false reading.
- Excessive oil consumption from the turbo or engine.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check for related injector, DPF and temperature codes.
- Compare all exhaust temperature sensor readings in live data.
- Check the engine injectors and exhaust injector for leaks.
- Make sure no oil is leaking into the exhaust.
- Repair the root cause, replace damaged parts, then clear the code and road test.
