Reductant (AdBlue) Temperature Sensor Circuit High

What does this code mean?

Severity : Medium

P2045 means the voltage on the reductant (AdBlue or DEF) temperature sensor circuit is too high. This sensor, often built into the tank or sender module, lets the control module manage heating and dosing of the SCR system. A high reading usually points to an open circuit.

Symptoms

  • Check engine or AdBlue warning light on.
  • Emissions system warning message.
  • Countdown to a no restart condition on some vehicles.
  • AdBlue dosing disabled.

Possible causes

  • Corroded or unplugged AdBlue tank module connector.
  • Open wiring or short to voltage.
  • Faulty reductant temperature sensor.
  • Crystallised AdBlue getting into the connector.
  • Faulty SCR or engine control module, less commonly.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Inspect the AdBlue module connector and clean off any crystals.
  • Check wiring continuity back to the control module.
  • Measure sensor resistance and compare it with actual temperature.
  • Replace the sensor or tank module if needed.
  • Clear the code and confirm the SCR system works on a road test.
