PPowertrainDrive Motor A Position Sensor Circuit A
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP0C50 reports a fault in circuit A of the drive motor A position sensor on a hybrid or electric vehicle. This sensor (often a resolver) reports the exact rotor position so the motor can be controlled. Without a reliable signal, the system limits or cuts electric drive.
Symptoms
- Check engine or hybrid system warning light on.
- Reduced power or limp mode.
- Vehicle will not enter ready mode.
- Jerking or unusual noise from the electric motor.
Possible causes
- Failed drive motor position sensor.
- Damaged or corroded wiring or connector.
- Moisture inside the connector.
- Internal motor or inverter fault.
- Faulty motor control module.
Diagnosis and repair
- Have the work done by a technician qualified for high voltage systems.
- Inspect the low voltage connector of the position sensor.
- Measure the sensor winding resistances against manufacturer values.
- Repair the wiring or replace the relevant assembly per the manufacturer procedure.
- Clear the code and check operation in electric mode.
