P0A03
PPowertrainMotor Electronics Coolant Temperature Sensor High
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP0A03 applies to hybrid and electric vehicles: the voltage on the motor electronics coolant temperature sensor circuit is too high. This cooling loop protects the inverter and the drive motor. A high reading usually points to an open circuit and gives a false temperature value.
Symptoms
- Check engine or hybrid system warning light on.
- Reduced electric power.
- Cooling fans or pump running constantly.
- Possible limp mode.
Possible causes
- Corroded or unplugged sensor connector.
- Open wiring or short to voltage.
- Faulty temperature sensor.
- Fault in the hybrid control module, less commonly.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check the coolant level in the electronics cooling circuit.
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring.
- Measure sensor resistance and compare with actual temperature.
- Replace the sensor if needed, following high voltage safety procedures.
- Clear the code and check the temperature reading on a test drive.
