Invalid Data Received From Brake Control Module

What does this code mean?

Severity : Medium

U0418 means a module has received invalid data from the brake system control module (ABS or ESC). Communication is present, but the information sent is implausible or out of range. Functions that rely on this data, such as traction control, may be disabled.

Symptoms

  • Check engine, ABS or stability light on.
  • Cruise control or traction control unavailable.
  • Erratic speedometer on some vehicles.
  • Other communication codes may be stored.

Possible causes

  • Internal fault or active code in the brake module.
  • Faulty wheel speed sensor sending wrong values.
  • Low or unstable battery voltage.
  • Damaged CAN bus wiring or connector.
  • Outdated or incorrectly configured module software.
