What does this code mean?
Severity : HighU0167 means the engine control module or another module has lost communication with the vehicle immobilizer control module on the data network. Without this exchange the engine module cannot confirm a valid key, so it often prevents the engine from starting as a security measure.
Symptoms
- Engine cranks but will not start, or starts then stalls.
- Immobilizer or key warning light on or flashing.
- Check engine light on.
- Key not recognised intermittently.
Possible causes
- Weak battery or unstable voltage.
- Blown fuse or missing power to the immobilizer module.
- Damaged CAN bus wiring or connector.
- Faulty immobilizer control module.
- Poor module ground.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check battery condition and voltage.
- Check fuses and power supply to the immobilizer module.
- Inspect network wiring, connectors and grounds.
- Test communication with the module using a scan tool.
- Repair or replace the module, following the manufacturer procedure for programming.
