P2291
PPowertrainInjector Control Pressure Too Low While Cranking
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP2291 means injector control pressure is too low while the engine is cranking. It mainly concerns diesel engines whose injectors are actuated by oil pressure or a dedicated high pressure circuit. If this pressure does not reach the required threshold during cranking, the engine will be hard to start or will not start.
Symptoms
- Long cranking or no start.
- Check engine light on.
- Stalling shortly after starting.
- Lack of power when cold.
Possible causes
- Low engine oil level or wrong oil grade.
- Internal or external leak in the high pressure control circuit.
- Worn high pressure oil pump.
- Faulty control pressure regulator or sensor.
- Worn injector seals.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check engine oil level and condition.
- Read control pressure during cranking in live data.
- Inspect the sensor, regulator and their wiring.
- Look for a leak in the high pressure circuit, with an air leak test if needed.
- Repair the leak or replace the faulty part, then clear the code and test starting.
