PPowertrainEngine Shutoff Solenoid Fault
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighP0215 reports an engine shutoff solenoid malfunction. On diesel engines fitted with this device, the solenoid opens the fuel supply with the key on and cuts it at shutdown. If it does not work properly, the engine may not start, may stall, or may not stop normally.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Engine will not start.
- Stalling while driving.
- Engine keeps running after the key is turned off.
Possible causes
- Failed or sticking shutoff solenoid.
- Broken wire or corroded connector.
- Faulty supply fuse or relay.
- Contaminated fuel jamming the solenoid.
- Faulty control module, less often.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check the solenoid supply fuse and relay.
- Check voltage at the solenoid with the key on and listen for it clicking.
- Measure the coil resistance with a multimeter.
- Replace the solenoid or repair the wiring.
- Clear the code and check engine start and shutdown.
