Air/Fuel Ratio Imbalance Between Cylinders (Bank 1)

What does this code mean?

Severity : Medium

P219A indicates an air fuel ratio imbalance between the cylinders of bank 1. Using the oxygen sensor or engine speed, the control module detects that one or more cylinders are running clearly richer or leaner than the others. This imbalance raises emissions and can damage the catalytic converter.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on.
  • Rough idle or vibration.
  • Possible misfires.
  • Higher fuel consumption.

Possible causes

  • Dirty or leaking injector on bank 1.
  • Localised vacuum leak near one cylinder.
  • Faulty or slow upstream oxygen sensor.
  • Exhaust leak ahead of the sensor.
  • Valve or compression problem on one cylinder.

Diagnosis and repair

  • Check for related misfire and oxygen sensor codes.
  • Look for intake vacuum leaks.
  • Run an injector balance or flow test.
  • Check the oxygen sensor and exhaust sealing.
  • Repair the identified cause, then clear the code and road test.
