P045E
PPowertrainEGR B Control Stuck Open
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP045E means EGR valve "B" is stuck open. The control module compares commanded position with measured position and sees that the valve is not closing. Too much exhaust gas then reaches the intake, which upsets combustion, especially at idle. The engine may also be hard to start.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Rough idle or stalling.
- Loss of power and possible black smoke.
- Hard starting.
Possible causes
- EGR valve B clogged with carbon.
- Faulty valve motor or position sensor.
- Damaged wiring or connector.
- Bent valve or seized stem.
- Faulty engine control module, less commonly.
Diagnosis and repair
- Check valve position in live data and run an actuator test with the scan tool.
- Inspect the EGR valve B connector and wiring.
- Remove the valve and check for carbon build up.
- Clean or replace the valve, then run a relearn if required.
- Clear the code and road test.
