P045A
PPowertrainEGR B Control Circuit Fault
What does this code mean?
Severity : MediumP045A signals a fault in the EGR B control circuit. On some engines, especially diesels with two EGR circuits, valve B is often the low pressure circuit. The engine control module detects an open, a short or a command that gets no response. The exact assignment varies by manufacturer.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Loss of power or limp mode.
- Unstable idle.
- Higher NOx emissions.
Possible causes
- Faulty EGR B valve or its electric motor.
- Open or shorted wiring.
- Corroded or damaged connector.
- Valve sticking due to carbon build up.
- Engine control module fault, which is rare.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the EGR B valve connector and wiring.
- Measure the valve motor resistance with a multimeter.
- Check supply and command from the module.
- Command the valve with a scan tool and compare commanded and actual position.
- Clean or replace the valve, clear the code and road test.
