P0453
PPowertrainEVAP System Pressure Sensor High Input
What does this code mean?
Severity : LowP0453 indicates a high voltage from the evaporative emission (EVAP) system pressure sensor. This sensor measures pressure in the fuel tank and EVAP circuit to detect leaks. A high voltage often means an open circuit or an abnormally high measured pressure.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on.
- Usually no driveability symptoms.
- Occasional difficulty filling the tank.
- Possible emissions test failure.
Possible causes
- Faulty EVAP pressure sensor.
- Signal wire shorted or ground wire open.
- Corroded connector.
- Blocked canister vent.
- Overfilled fuel tank.
Diagnosis and repair
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring.
- Remove the fuel cap and check that the pressure reading returns to zero.
- Measure 5 V supply, ground and signal with a multimeter.
- Check the vent valve, then replace the sensor if needed.
- Clear the code and let the EVAP test run again.
