BBodyDriver Airbag Fault
What does this code mean?
Severity : HighB1900 reports a fault with the driver airbag or its circuit. The airbag module constantly monitors the airbag firing circuit resistance, which usually runs through the steering wheel clockspring. This is a manufacturer-specific body code: the exact meaning depends on the manufacturer. While the fault is present, the airbag may not deploy.
Symptoms
- Airbag warning light on.
- Horn or steering wheel controls sometimes not working.
- No effect on driving, but driver protection is not guaranteed.
Possible causes
- Worn or broken steering wheel clockspring.
- Loose or corroded driver airbag connector.
- Faulty driver airbag module.
- Damaged wiring under the steering column.
- Faulty airbag control module, less often.
Diagnosis and repair
- Switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery before working on the airbag system.
- Read the detailed codes from the airbag module.
- Inspect the airbag and clockspring connectors, without measuring the airbag directly.
- Replace the clockspring or airbag module following the manufacturer procedure.
- Clear the codes and confirm the airbag light goes off.
